Cocktails with benefits at Barbecoa
Barbecoa are chanelling the latest cocktail trends this summer, by giving their menu a health kick. Yusif Al-Baggou, Bar Manager at Barbecoa, spills the beans: “The general public are becoming more health conscious and the discerning drinker is now looking for a healthier option when it comes to their cocktail.
"There has been a rise in the use of unconventional ingredients such as vegetables, herbs and spices instead of fruit and dairy in the pursuit of this.
"At Barbecoa one of our listed cocktails, 'El Bandido', uses ingredients frequently linked to salsas.Mezcal is mixed with fresh lime and a Verdita cordial – a common juice from Mexico, made from a blend of fresh coriander, mint, pineapple, cucumber, jalapeños and sea salt. This savoury, sour and slightly sweet drink is packed full of vitamins and minerals, perfect for those looking for a healthier spin on a cocktail."

Ingredients (makes two):
- Fine sea salt, for rims
- 70ml blanco tequila
- 50ml fresh lime juice
- 30ml agave syrup
- 2 lime wedges, to garnish
How to make it:
In this version of the classic, agave syrup is used to sweeten the cocktail instead of triple sec. The result is pure, refreshing and not bad for the health: with vitamin C from the fresh lime and low GI sugars from the agave syrup!
Prepare 2 tumblers with salt rims. Shake all the ingredients over ice and pour into the tumblers. Garnish each with a wedge of lime.

Choose from the Daring Cobbler, made with Regal Rogue Daring Dry, vanilla syrup, grapefruit, tonic and thyme or the Wild Americano, which is a blend of Regal Rogue Wild Rosé, Rinomato bitter, Fever Tree elderflower tonic, strawberry and mint.
