Cold temperatures, low humidity levels and blasting central heating can all play havoc with your skin in winter time.
Whether you suffer from dry patches, dull skin or breakouts, there are steps you can take to get that healthy glow even in the deepest, darkest winter months.
From simple skincare routine tweaks to our favourite products, we've rounded up the best skincare tips and tricks to soothe and calm troubled complexions.
Regular exfoliation is essential to slough away dead skin cells, however in the winter months you may find that skin becomes more easily irritated and dry patches can develop. Ditch rough scrubs and opt for Avène's Gentle Exfoliating Gel for Sensitive Skin (available at Boots), or try using a cleansing brush like this one from H&M with your regular cleanser to add a little extra buffing power.
When exfoliating your body, always opt for a warm bath to maximise hydration. Rub Molton Brown's Orange & Bergamot Radiant Body Polisher in circular motions, concentrating on dry areas while in the water.
Now, it's time to add moisture and in winter you may find you need a little extra hydration. If your skin is looking particularly dull, Faace's iconic Tired Mask (available at Oliver Bonas) uses caffeine and aloe vera to quickly perk up your complexion. Specifically formulated for thirsty skin, La Roche-Posay's Hydraphase UV Intense Rich at Boots rehydrates and protects with SPF20 (which you need to protect your skin, even in winter time).
Don't forget to slather your body in an extra rich moisturiser too – we love The Body Shop's intense Body Butters, which are most effective when applied straight after the bath or shower.
To achieve that luminous inner-glow you may want to boost your regime with a serum. Before moisturising, take a rose quartz roller like this one from H&M and smooth it over your skin in an upwards motion to stimulate blood flow and aid the absorption of serums. Squeeze a few drops of Boots' Glow Essense onto fingertips to warm it up and massage onto skin.
Once your skin is prepped and ready, apply your usual base and make it pop by taking a large brush to Zara's Face Palette and sweeping it across your brow bones. Instant lit-from-within glow!
If there's one arera of the body that suffers most in winter it has to be the hands. On top of the weather we are all still washing and sanitising our hands more often, which only adds to the dryness and cracks.
Combat painful chaps, by treating yourself to some moisturising washes and sanitisers from Oliver Bonas and add a hand cream to your bag for regular applications. The scent of The Body Shop's Satsuma Hand Cream is uplifting and a little bit festive – perfect for winter.
The cold weather can be a particularly tricky time for grooming as shaving is known to irritate skin. To shed the winter fuzz, pop to Strip for professional hair removal that won't upset your skin and fellas why not treat yourself to a traditional Turkish shave with hot-towel treatment at Ted's Grooming Room?
