London will mark Chinese New Year as ever with a huge Central London celebration, at the end of January, and lots of our nearby cultural venues are putting on events too
The 2017 Chinese New Year falls on 28 January, and the capital is honouring the ocassion in style the next day with a colourful parade, free performances, and a spectacular fireworks display. You can find out more about the public events on 29 January here.
At the National Gallery on Saturday 28 January you can enjoy a day of family activities to welcome the new Year of the Rooster. Kids up to the age of 11 can join in interactive theatrical performances from Chickenshed Theatre, while little ones have the chance to create roosters and rooster headdresses in special craft workshops. On 7 February The Grand Chinese New Year Concert at Barbican Hall is taking place. This concert of traditional Chinese music from the Shaanxi Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra and Zhejiang Traditional Orchestra will give the audience a sample of the country’s colourful musical tradition.
